Horse Feed 101
What are some foods horses eat?
• Salt licks
The 3 most important things to have to feed a horse:
60% of the horse is water and they need 9 gallons a day & up to 20 gallons in the heat
2)HAY or PASTURE (Good quality )
It’s their biologically appropriate food, their guts run on fiber plus it gives them something to do, horses are natural foragers
Mineral & salt in order t to make up for anything that may be lacking in their hay or pasture
Grains, (also called concentrates because they are more nutrient dense) help out in situations like:
• Compromised health
• Need more calories
• Need more nutrients
• Not enough time to let your horse “graze his needs” in
• or maybe simply to catch your horse or treat them
Types of grain include Whole, Rolled, Processed, and Extruded
We’re happy t help guide you to the right selection!
